What is dried food?
Drying is the world’s oldest and most common method of food preservation. Drying technology is both simple and readily available to most of the world’s cultures. Examples of dried foods are jerky, powdered milk, dried beans and peas, potatoes in a box, dried fruits and vegetables, pasta, and rice. Canning technology is just over 200 years old, and freezing became practical only during this century as electricity became increasingly available.

Dried food – Dried Fruit
Dried fruit has had almost all of its water content removed through drying methods. The fruit shrinks during drying, leaving a small, energy-rich dry fruit. Raisins are ranked among the most popular dried fruits. Followed by dates, prunes, figs and apricots.
Other dried fruits such as: Mango, pineapple, cranberry, banana and apple… can be processed in the form of sugar-coated candies.
The shelf life of dried fruit is longer than that of fresh fruit and is considered a handy snack, especially during long trips without a refrigerator to preserve and store.
Dried food – Dried seafood
Dried seafood is fresh seafood with the water removed. This is a traditional and cultural seafood preservation technique in China. Open air drying with the sun and wind is the most classic technique for drying seafood, followed by smoking and salting.
Example: Dried fish, dried squid, dried shrimp.
